How to Add a Popup on WordPress

Method 1: Add a Feedback Form Popup on WordPress with UserFeedback

UserFeedback

The first method we want to cover is for adding a feedback form popup on WordPress using UserFeedback. If you’re looking to gather customer feedback effectively, UserFeedback is the ideal tool.

UserFeedback is user-friendly and allows you to create popups effortlessly in WordPress. It offers a variety of templates for NPS surveys, phone lead forms, CES surveys, CSAT surveys, post-purchase reviews, and much more.

UserFeedback operates as a standalone popup plugin for WordPress, so there’s no need for additional plugins to create a survey popup.

The reports feature allows you to view your survey responses easily. It also integrates seamlessly with MonsterInsights to sync your form submissions with your website’s analytics.

So, without further ado, let’s get started.

First, go to UserFeedback and select the license that best suits your needs.

The Plus license provides access to premium templates, branding customization, and excellent features. We recommend the Pro license for more advanced capabilities, including specific targeting and scheduling surveys in advance.

Once you’ve purchased UserFeedback, log in to your UserFeedback account.

Click on Downloads, then download the UserFeedback plugin and copy your License Key.

After configuring these options, click Next Step at the bottom.

On the Notifications screen, you can opt to receive an email each time someone completes your survey.

Now, let’s look into our next method for adding a popup to WordPress.

Method 2: Create a WordPress Popup with OptinMonster and WPForms

Let’s dive into the next method, which is using OptinMonster and WPForms.

OptinMonster is one of the most popular plugins for building popups on WordPress, boasting over a million active installations. As the name suggests, it’s designed to create opt-in forms and popup boxes.

Opt-in forms are designed to ask users to subscribe to emails or marketing communications, but popups can be used for various purposes beyond that.

OptinMonster is beginner-friendly and offers powerful features that make creating visually appealing, highly engaging popups for different needs easy.

Key features of OptinMonster include:

  • A drag-and-drop popup builder that allows beginners to design custom popups.
  • Over 400 templates and six campaign types to cater to any requirement.
  • Various triggering options to display popups exactly where and when you want.
  • Advanced technologies like Exit-Intent® and InactivitySensor™ to boost conversions.
  • It is compatible with any website, not just WordPress (no plugin required).

While OptinMonster can create simple opt-in forms, we recommend using a dedicated forms builder plugin for more advanced forms with greater design options.

OptinMonster allows you to embed forms into your popups easily. You don’t need any programming knowledge to do this.

In this example, we’ll use WPForms, the top-tier forms plugin for WordPress.

WPForms

Once both plugins are installed, WPForms seamlessly integrates with OptinMonster. This integration makes creating professional-looking popups that include your custom forms incredibly easy.

Let’s start by installing WPForms.

Step 1: Install WPForms on WordPress

To start, go to WPForms and purchase a license. We recommend getting WPForms Pro to access over 500 templates, payment processing, surveys, and other advanced features.

However, any plan will allow you to create a form for your popup.

After purchasing your license, download the WPForms plugin from your account by clicking Download WPForms. Copy your license key by clicking the clipboard icon next to the License Key.

If you’re happy with the template as it is, click Save.

You can also make some changes. For instance, make the Name field optional to increase the chances of form completion.

Click the Name field, then toggle off the Required switch in the Field Options box.

Save your form for later use.

At this stage, you’ll need to create a new popup and then incorporate your saved form. The next step involves installing a WordPress popup plugin – OptinMonster.

Step 3: Install OptinMonster on WordPress

Now, install OptinMonster to build your popup.

Go to Plugins » Add New and search for OptinMonster in your WordPress dashboard.

Save your popup and form, then close the OptinMonster editor using the X.

This will take you back to your WordPress dashboard.

Step 6: Configure Popup Display Settings

Back in the WordPress dashboard, configure where and when your popup will appear.

By default, popups display on every page to every visitor, but you can customize this to show on specific pages, posts, or to logged-in users only.

To enable your popup, change the status to Published in the Status dropdown and click Save Changes.

Congratulations! Your new popup and lead capture form will now display on your website, ready to gather new subscribers.
